The Community Garden was established in 2009 to accommodate a Local Training Initiative Horticulture Level 5 Course. The students on the course were producing a lot of vegetables as part of their training and decided to sell excess produce to the public. The Kilmeedy Homegrown label was created as a micro business.
Each year with more thought from the coordinators and students it was decided that it would be more cost and time effective to set up a vegetable box scheme where customers would subscribe for a specific number of weeks at a cost and collect their veg boxes on Thursday’s in the village. This system worked very well.
